Carnegiea gigantea è una delle specie più iconiche delle Cactaceae. La storia del saguaro (il nome comune di questa pianta) affonda le sue radici nel passato di diverse popolazioni indigene dell’America Centrale e Settentrionale. Negli ultimi due secoli, esploratori, scienziati e botanici hanno studiato questo intrigante cactus fino a stabilire l’attuale nomenclatura. Tutti possono incontrare il saguaro in natura nel Saguaro National Park di Tucson (Arizona), un parco naturale fondata con lo scopo di proteggere questa pianta e l’ambiente desertico in cui vive.

Carnegiea gigantea is one of the most iconic species among the Cactaceae. The history of the saguaro (the common name of this plant) is rooted in the past of several indigenous peoples from Central and North America. During the last two centuries, explorers, scientists and botanists have studied this wonderful cactus until the current nomenclature was established. Everyone can meet the giant saguaro in nature at the Saguaro National Park in Tucson (Arizona), an institution founded with the aim of protecting this plant and the unique desert environment in which it lives.
