L’Associazione Italiana Amatori delle piante Succulente (AIAS), fondata nel 1979, è l’unica organizzazione senza finalità di lucro italiana specificamente dedicata al mondo delle cosiddette “succulente”, ovvero i cactus e tutte le altre piante che, solitamente indicate come “grasse”, manifestano nel fusto, nelle foglie o nell’apparato radicale il fenomeno della succulenza dei tessuti, ovvero della ritenzione di acqua finalizzata al superamento di periodi dell’anno particolarmente secchi.
L’AIAS riunisce centinaia di appassionati, coltivatori, collezionisti, botanici e vivaisti italiani ed esteri, intrattenendo rapporti continuativi con le altre associazioni straniere dedicate alle piante succulente e con società internazionali di appassionati ed esperti di singole famiglie, generi o tipologie di piante.

The Italian Cactus and Succulent Society (AIAS, Associazione Italiana Amatori delle Piante Succulente), founded in 1979, is the only Italian non-profit organisation specifically dedicated to the world of succulent plants, i.e. to cacti and all other species whose stems, leaves or root system developed the phenomenon of tissue succulence, i.e. the retention of water aimed at overcoming dry spells.
